Michael Hughes, retiring national secretary of the Irish Shows Association (I.S.A.), was the guest speaker at the recent AGM of the Tullamore & County Offaly Agricultural Show Society, held in the Bridge House, Tullamore.
Michael has been a great supporter and guide for the Tullamore Show. He commended the committee on the development and progress of the Show since it’s revival in 1991, while also saying that it was the most successful of its kind on the island.
Michael recollected some of his experiences while National Secretary of the ISA.
He thanked Minster Michael Ring and the Department of Agriculture and the Marine, for the special grants of € 812,000 given to Agricultural Shows across the country in 2018.
During his many years of involvement with the Irish Shows Association, Michael also was held the office of National President and National Treasurer at various times.
Show Chairperson, Brenda Kiernan, thanked Michael very sincerely and his wife, Maureen, who acted as Assistant Secretary, when Michael was out of office.
As a small gesture of Tullamore Show’s appreciation of all of Michael’s help and support over the years, a presentation of Irish handcrafted Bog Oak was presented to Michael by Chairperson, Brenda Kiernan and Freda Kinnarney, Operations Manager.
Michael was very appreciative of the presentation and admitted that when he wants peace and quiet, a walk down the bog is his preferred method of relaxation.
We wish Michael and Maureen good health and happiness in their retirement.
