Saturday, 30th March2019 saw Europe’s biggest one day agricultural event, the Tullamore Show & FBD National Livestock Show, awarded the very prestigious honour of being the 2018 Offaly Person of the Year.
Mr Peter Carter PRO of the organising committee, being Offaly Association (Dublin), stated “that it gave him great pleasure to present the 2018 and 31st Offaly Person of the Year award to an organisation that has made an outstanding contribution to the farming, business, commercial and social life of Tullamore, Offaly, the wider midlands and indeed the entire country for over two and a half decades. For only the 2nd time in awards history, the award has been bestowed on an organisation rather than an individual, the 2018 recipient is synonymous with all that is great about Tullamore and Offaly”.
The night commenced with everyone gathered in the foyer for a champagne reception, which was then followed by a fantastic meal in the Bridge House Hotels, Charleville Suite. Selection Committee, Secretary, Mr Ger Scully was the Master of Ceremony for the evening, welcomed everyone and asked Canon Ruth Gill to say grace before meal.
Liam Leogue, President, Offaly Association (Dublin) presented Brenda Kiernan (Chairperson) and Freda Kinnarney (Operations Manager) on behalf of Tullamore Show with a prestidious sculpture of Bog Oak.
In her address, Brenda stated “The Tullamore Show Executive Committee would like to extend a BIG thank you to the Judging Panel for selecting us for the 2018 Offaly Person of the Year award. We are truly honoured to receive it. It is an even greater honour to be placed in such distinguished ranks as those of past honourees, all of whom have made important contributions to the business, culture, sporting and social life of our county”
The Tullamore Show has continued to thrive year after year, from farming to fashion, craft and cookery, from innovations and inventions, The Tullamore show is the one place where for one amazing day each year, both urban and rural communities mingle together seamlessly, all enjoying the authentic cultural experience that combines livestock, home and garden, entertainment, music and much, much more.
We would also like to congratulate Mr Jim Feighery and the Shinrone Heritage Group who organised an ecumenical service to honour all those from the area who fought and died in the Great War.
The awards on the night were generously sponsored by Coolderry native, Mr. Noel Tynan of Le Bon Crubeen Restaurant, Talbot Street, Dublin.
We look forward to continuing to represent Offaly in our capacity as the Tullamore Show into the future, with this honourable title.
