All-Ireland Farm Skills Competition

Each year Macra hold their All Ireland Farm Skills Competition at our Show.

They are very welcome and we also acknowledge the support they get from FBD Insurance for the Competition.

It brings a particular buzz to this part of the Showgrounds, with a constant  of competitive farming.

Macra plans for an even greater presence this year.

A running commentary will be provided to explain the buzz created by competitors and numerous Macra representatives will be available to talk to anyone interested in the competition or indeed in getting involved in a Macra Club.

Six clubs from around the country take part and it involves very practical and appropriate skills for present day young farmers.

The competition tests proficiency in several aspects of farm skills, from tractor skills to fencing. The aim of the competition is to help young farmers develop various farm skills and techniques, to demonstrate to the public the skill required in modern farming, and to create greater awareness of farm safety.

Speaking after a heat of the 2019 FBD Farm Skills Competition, Macra na Feirme National President, Kieran O’Dowd, said, “The FBD Farm skills competition is an excellent platform to support the ongoing development of members and help them learn new skills and techniques. An important aspect of their learning is farm safety which is an important issue for farmers. I’d also like to thank our sponsors, FBD, for their continued support.”
